You need a love of music & patience & also it depends on whether you want to do it as a hobby or as a living. There's 3 main types of DJing: radio, mixing & personality (entertaining using a mic). Specialise in what you're moatly interested in & try get in with a DJ who is already established & you can learn tips from him/her & practise on his/her gear. Offer to do house parties cos they can be valuable practice & useful in getting your name known around town.
No matter how good or bad a DJ is you can always learn from them, i.e. how you could incorporate & adapt any tricks they have & what not to do!
