The Weekend Invasion…Space Opening 2010
To mark a new decade and its 21st year, Space took the unprecedented move of opening on both nights of the weekend. It opened its doors at 4.30pm on both days, had six areas open on Saturday and added the Flight Club Area with a new stage set-up on Sunday, and Juan Arenas (General Manager) tells us why. With more than 60 artists playing over a total of 30 hours, and between 18k and 20k people through the doors on Sunday alone, the party went off! As usual, the Flight Club Arena hosted an amazing stage show with videos, dancers and lights aplenty, and DJs Elio Riso, Wally Lopez, Carl Cox, climaxing with Steve Lawler’s set which finished at midnight…when everyone descended on the rest of the club in force

Nicole Moudaber joins Carl Cox’s Revolution
Nicole Moudaber grew up in Lebanon and Nigeria and, after developing a love of all things house, she introduced it to the Middle East back in the 90s. She then moved to London where she ran Southeast Recordings and the Turnmills night, Soundworx. Her passion drove her to travel the world in search of the best parties, but she always stayed in the PR side of things rather than actually playing, until recently… She’s developed a terrific group of legendary supporters, such as Carl Cox and John Digweed, who not only admire her DJ-ing but also her production work

THE DEFINING POINT
Download a hi-res version of this photo In the movie Lost in Translation, Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson’s characters eat lunch at a shabu-shabu restaurant in Tokyo, prompting Murray to wonder rhetorically, “What kind of restaurant makes you cook your own food?” Sakura Shabu-Shabu in Huntington Beach, California is one such place, and despite the cinematic opinion just cited, the trendy West Coast eatery regularly fills its tables with patrons eager to create meals right at their own tables. Prepared by submerging thinly sliced beef and a savory blend of vegetables in a pot of boiling water, traditional shabu-shabu often ends up served alongside tofu, nori (edible seaweed), Chinese cabbage, chrysanthemum leaves, onions, carrots, and shiitake mushrooms. Giving diversity to its menu, Sakura Shabu-Shabu also tempts patrons with yakitori, an entree made with bite-size pieces of chicken cooked on a bamboo skewer
